Finding a Higher Purpose

Finding a Higher Purpose

Looking from the perspective of the outside world, Lincoln Lutheran seems like a small community but coming from an insider, there is so much going on there that it’s impossible to classify it as small. I get the chance to be myself in so many different areas in my life that I truly care about. At Lincoln Lutheran I am a student, an athlete, and a friend…just to name a few. In other places all of these circles might be separate, but at Lincoln Lutheran all of them overlap. The thing that brings them all together is the fact that every time I walk through the doors at Lincoln Lutheran, I know there is a higher purpose being acknowledged. Everything is focused on Christ. I am not defined by the different activities I am involved in, rather those activities define me because I am a child of Christ and I can shine his light through my various activities and relationships.

On a daily basis I am pushed to be a better student by teachers who truly care about me. I want to deepen my relationship with Christ and by having teachers who include daily devotions in class I am able to do just that. They help all of us further develop our foundation in Christ and as a whole student body we are more educated about our faith than most of the world is. Inside the walls of Lincoln Lutheran we are challenged to think about our faith more deeply, especially through Apologetics. I can be “sheltered” from the full blow of the outside world, while I learn how to deal with the challenges that await me. All of our other education is still Christ centered and that carries out to the rest of our lives too.

One of the other things that makes me fit in here is the fact that I am surrounded by wonderful friends who are on a faith journey right with me. We are not only challenged by the teachers, but also by each other. All of us working together to become better and stronger in our faith walks, similar to a team setting. Saying that, a big part of my friends come from the teams I play on. We go through things as teammates that other people don’t normally get the chance to. Wearing that Lincoln Lutheran jersey with the cross helps me remember who I’m really playing for. Whether I am on the court, in the classroom, or just hanging out with my friends. I can be identified in any of those communities as a Child of God.
